Plentea in Financial District, SF

Next up, Plentea. First opening his doors in 2014, Plentea serves handcrafted tea of different types. Even those who might not like the original milk tea boba can find something they like here - from Nutella Milk Tea to Avocado Smoothies (and yes, you can add tapioca and many other toppings to both!). Plentea is definitely one of its kind with its wooden insta-worthy interior design and glass bottles. (if bring those bottles back during your next visit you might get a discount!). As cute and chic this place is, the price and quality didn't go quite well together for me. For $5, I could only get a small Green Milk Tea with Tapioca (toppings cost extra as well).

Here's the breakdown: Tapioca Balls: The boba was well-cooked (perfect middle between too soft and too chewy). The taste of the boba wasn't as prominent - you could definitely taste that it wasn't made from scratch in-house but not many places do anyway.

Overall Taste:

The overall drink felt a bit bitter - certain brands of jasmine tea taste more bitter than others so it's just a matter of finding which store has your favourite brew of jasmine tea. However, for my preferred 25% sweetness, this specific jasmine milk tea tasted less enjoyable, especially with the boba that didn't add additional taste to the drink.

Sugar Levels:

Even though I like my tea a little bit bitter and usually just take the 25% sweetness level where possible, this drink was more bitter than my preferred milk tea. I'd imagine having a 75% sweetness level would make the perfect boba drink flavor that most people expect. However, the 25% of sweetness still made it a pleasant and somewhat sweet drink with a bitter aftertaste.

Ice Levels: The ice level was perfect to make it just cold enough to enjoy it immediately and not feel too cold. While that was perfect, I think that this ice level made a drink feel a bit watered down.

Boba:Drink Ratio: The ration of boba to the actual drink was perfect - you are able to finish the boba together with the drinks without leaving any behind.

Overall Rating: 7/10
